The Best Sightseeing Places in Eastern Bhutan

Eastern Bhutan

In terms of public infrastructure growth, creating a political and economic hub in the west has greatly benefited the country. It has also resulted in urban migration, and the growing population in the area has led to the region's burgeoning trade activities. The Eastern  Bhutan has remained unchanged, with its traditional way of life intact. People in the idyllic east cultivate greater feelings of belonging and lead a far simpler life as the west becomes bigger and busier. Sightseeing Places in EasternBhutan make it an ideal destination for travelers who want to unplug from their hectic lives completely. The east's remoteness and wilderness have a rejuvenating environment for visitors. Let's have a peek at some of the must-see sights in eastern Bhutan for visitors:

Trekking from Merak to Sakteng in Eastern Bhutan Tour

With a high elevation of 4100 meters, it is a modest trek across the Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary. Endangered animals such as the Himalayan red fox, red panda, and black bear call the sanctuary home. The valley of Yetis is a well-known name for the region (the abominable snowman). Locals in the region claim the presence of Yeti, but it is considered a legend due to a lack of evidence to back up this assertion.

The stop at the spectacular Merak village during your Eastern Bhutan tour is the highlight of this trek. It is home to the Brokpas, a semi-nomadic tribal group (highlanders). The Brokpa, who live at 3500 metres, depend on herding Yaks for their subsistence. Many Brokpas continue to live nomadic lives, roaming with their herds of Yaks and bartering for necessities. Yak cheese that has been fermented is a delicacy. Brokpas have their dialect and are known for their distinctive clothes. Women wear a red and white striped shirt, while men wear a heavy red wool suit. Animal hides are applied to the men's outfits.

The sanctuary is home to endangered species such as the snow leopard, Royal Bengal tiger, and red panda, and it occupies the majority of Tashi Yangtse District. The field is home to 130 different species of butterflies. This idyllic destination is perfect for photography tours due to its rich biodiversity and picturesque scenery.

As tourists arrive at the site, they are greeted by a meticulously sculpted statue, and the view of the valley below is breathtaking. The statue was erected in line with scripture to bring unity, peace, and prosperity to the nation and the world. A three-story temple is located inside the huge statue. It has drawn local and international devotees to the site since its consecration, which has helped the community's economy develop. A few farmhouses have started a bed and breakfast operation in this quaint village, providing travelers with an authentic overnight stay experience.

Chorten  Kora

The monument, located in Tashi Yangtse District, is thought to be a copy of Nepal's Boudhanath temple. This temple holds an annual event known as the Dakpa Kora, where locals from all over the world and people from Arunachal Pradesh come to circumambulate.
